The Railway Recruitment Boards have announced CEN 07/2026 for Non-Technical Popular Categories at the undergraduate (12th pass) level. The short notice lists 1,688 tentative vacancies across four clerical posts in zonal railways and production units, with online applications open from 15 October to 13 November 2026.
This is one of the few central government routes where a Class 12 pass candidate can join a permanent Group C post with 7th CPC pay, railway passes and a clear promotion ladder into commercial and accounts departments.

Which post should you choose?
All four posts share the same CBT stages, but the work and the final stage differ:
- Commercial cum Ticket Clerk (700 posts): the largest share and the only Level 3 post. The role is counter-facing: ticket sales, reservations and passenger queries at stations.
- Junior Clerk cum Typist (600 posts): office work in railway establishments. You must clear a typing skill test on computer after CBT 2.
- Accounts Clerk cum Typist (200 posts): bills, payrolls and accounts records. It also needs the typing test, so pick it only if you can type fluently in English or Hindi.
- Trains Clerk (188 posts): yard and train documentation work, often in shifts. It has no typing test.
Your post and railway preferences are recorded in the online form and are generally hard to change later, so decide before you start filling it.
Eligibility in plain words
You need a 10+2 (Class 12) pass or equivalent from a recognised board. Typist posts additionally require computer typing proficiency in English or Hindi. Candidates whose final Class 12 result is awaited should check the detailed CEN before applying.
The age range for unreserved and EWS candidates is 18 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027. OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3 extra years and SC/ST candidates 5 extra years. PwBD and ex-servicemen relaxations follow central government rules and are spelled out in the detailed CEN.
How selection works
- CBT 1 is a screening test. Only a limited multiple of candidates per post moves ahead.
- CBT 2 decides merit for the post you applied for.
- Typing skill test is for the two typist posts only and is qualifying in nature.
- Document verification and medical examination follow. Each post has its own medical standard, so check it against your eyesight before choosing.
There is no interview at any stage.
Application steps and what to check
- Create an account on rrbapply.gov.in once the link opens on 15 October. If you registered for an earlier RRB cycle, use the "already have an account" option instead of making a duplicate.
- Choose one RRB only. Applying to more than one board under the same CEN can lead to rejection.
- Upload a recent photo and signature in the stated format. Blurred or reused photos are a common reason for rejection.
- Pay the fee online: ₹500 for UR/OBC/EWS and ₹250 for SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen, female, transgender, minority and EBC candidates. In recent RRB cycles, part or all of the fee was refunded after the candidate sat CBT 1. Confirm the refund rule in the detailed CEN.
- Download the submitted form and keep the registration number safe for admit card downloads.
Our note before you apply
These figures come from the short notice and are marked tentative, so the detailed CEN on the RRB websites is the final authority on vacancies, refund rules and medical standards. If you also hold a degree, compare this cycle with the separate RRB NTPC Graduate notice (CEN 06/2026), which has higher-paying posts and a 6 November deadline.
